English Summary

Getting the Message

This story is about hearing people’s bloopers, but is not intended as an attack. It simply is a demonstration of how little some people know about Deaf people. Tracy and her husband were staying at a hotel. Upon entering their room, Tracy saw the light on for a phone message. She went down to the front desk to retrieve her message. The clerk attempted to explain how to use the phone to get the message from their room. Tracy pointed out that being Deaf, getting phone messages did not work that way for her…and the clerk realized the error and went and got the written message.
