English Summary of Research Study
In 2015, the RID membership passed a motion requiring all certified interpreters to earn 1.0 CEUs related to understanding power, privilege, and oppression. This research study is looking at what best practices are for such training and how RID can evaluate the effectiveness of these trainings.
Conducted by Doug Bowen-Bailey and advised by Dr. Glenn Anderson, this study will be conducted in ASL. Through a series of focus groups with three different groups:
- People involved in proposing this motion or who are past or current members of the two member sections who were secondary sponsors: Interpreters & Transliterators of Color and Deaf Caucus.
- People who are approved sponsors for the RID Certification Maintenance Program.
- People who are certified interpreters and will be consumers of this training.
