Date & Time:  October 6th, 2014
6pm-7:30 Forum
7:30pm-8pm Open Discussion
Location:  Trepanier Hall, 202 West 2nd Street Duluth, MN

Duluth has specific local needs that can be addressed on both a county level and a state level.  The focus of this forum will be to bring solutions to the candidates for County Commissioner District 1 & MN House Districts 7A & 7B to address these needs.

CHUM, Citizen’s Federation, Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless, AICHO, Loaves & Fishes & Community Action Duluth are working in partnership to host a Local Solutions to Poverty Candidate Forum on Monday, October 6th from 6pm to 7:30pm with Open Discussion from 7:30pm-8pm at Trepanier Hall. This will be a reverse forum style with speakers who have experienced poverty and homelessness present to tell their stories and make direct asks of the candidates in order to inform candidates of issues that matter to those in poverty and to create accountability. We are inviting the candidates for St. Louis County Commissioner District 1 & MN House Districts 7A & 7B.

Confirmed Candidates:

  • For County Commissioner: Frank Jewel and Jim Booth
  • For 7A: Jen Schultz, Becky Hall, Kriss Osbakken
  • For 7B: Eric Simonson (We are waiting to hear from Travis Silvers.)

At the first Local Solutions to Poverty Candidate Forum there were approximately 100 people in attendance.  Everyone left encouraged and with new insights of what they can do to help decrease poverty, including the candidates.  The same is expected for the 2nd Annual Local Solutions to Poverty Candidate Forum.

*There will be on-site voter registration as well as light refreshments.
*On-Site Children Programming will be provided for ages 5+ from 5:45-8:15pm.
