Software Alert: Problem with Adobe Reader 7 and QuickTime 7.

The initial versions of Adobe Reader 7 (up to 7.03) do not support playing QuickTime video if you have QuickTime 7 installed. This is a known issue that Adobe is working on fixing and should be releasing a patch to resolve this issue.

In the meantime, two options exist:

Install Reader 5.05 or Reader 6

To do so, go to: www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html

Once there, you will be prompted to select an Operating System.

  • To download Acrobat Reader 5.05, select either Windows 98 or Mac OS 10.2.1 - 9.1.
  • To download Adobe Reader 6.01, select either Windows 2000 or Mac 02 10.2.2 - 10.2.7.

The screen will look like the one below.

Uninstall QuickTime 7 and Install QuickTime 6.5.1

If you're still having issues, you can change your versions of QuickTime.

Despite QuickTime 7 being a powerful new upgrade for QuickTime software, you won't notice a difference in the video play for these CD-ROMs. You can uninstall using Windows uninstall option, or by dragging the application to the trash in Macintosh. To download QuickTime 6.5.1, click here. You will a see a screen like the one below. Windows users should clikc on the link on the left that says QuickTime Installer (Windows). Mac users should click on the arrow and link that says 15.8 MB.
