Five Parallel Mathematics Lessons in ASL and English
Created by the RSA Region V project, this CD features two mathematics teachers working from the same lesson plans, but in diferent languages. Steven Fuerst, a Deaf teacher at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf, and Harv Schuldt, a retired teacher from Fairbault Public Schools in Minnesota, each teach a series of lessons on:
- Perimeter, Area, and Volume
- Number Lines and Comparing Numbers
- Translating English to Algebra (Story Problems)
- Multiplying Rational Expressions (Fractions)
- Performing Operations with Square Roots
Each lesson comes complete with a lesson plan that you can print out and use as a reference, and a movie in English and in ASL. An extremely useful tool for educational interpreters, as well as an opportunity to practicing interpreting--and then having a parallel lesson in the target language to compare your interpretation to.
