When the Law Meets Medicine....
Digiterp Communications, in partnership with T.S. Writing Services, produced a DVD for Fairview Health Services which includes ASL and spoken English versions of admissions documents. The DVD, entitlted "Fairview: A Commitment to Access", includes the following texts:
- A Notice to Patients on Access
- The Minnesota Patients' Bill of Rights
- Notice of Privacy Practices
- Information on Advance Health Care Directives
An accompanying study packet will be available in the fall of 2005 and will include written transcripts of the texts as well as ideas for how to work with them in interpreter education. These parallel texts offer an excellent opportunity for practicing situations where the legal and medical professions interact. The study packet will be available for free download here.
